Windows 11 Update Adds Major Taskbar and Start Menu Controls

Quick Report

Microsoft is rolling out Windows 11 update KB5120998 with broader taskbar and Start menu customization. Users can place the taskbar at the top, left, or right of the display, choose a smaller taskbar mode, resize the Start menu, and rename its Recommended section to Recent.

The update also refreshes Windows Search with clearer result categories, options to disable web and Store suggestions, and indexing for frequently used folders. File Explorer Home should load faster and support touch scrolling in its Recent section, while new progress indicators and reliability improvements affect startup, sign-in, updates, virtual desktops, and display settings.
