Silicon Motion Unveils SM2508 to Compete Against Phison E26 SSD Controller at Computex 2024

Quick Report

Silicon Motion has unveiled its latest SM2508 SSD controller at Computex 2024. The SM2508 is designed to compete against Phison’s E26 Max14um controller, which is used in many high-end SSDs. Built on TSMC’s 6nm process which reduces peak power consumption to 3.5W when compared to competitor’s controller found on several NVMe drives peaking at 7W. The SM2508 is a NVMe controller that supports PCIe 5.0 x4 interface, 3600 MT/s ONFI/Toggle DDR, 3D TLC & QLC NAND capable of delivering read speeds of up to 14GB/s and write speeds of up to 13GB/s.
